Detox Menu Shopping Haul

Last week I started detoxing or how others like to call it "eating clean." After experiencing a 5 month plateau, I figured my body had grown used to my normal food options, so I decided to shake up my menu! I researched a bit on detoxing and figured the more extreme juicing/fasting detoxes were not for me. I mean, I need substance people lol. So, I decided to incorporate healthy food options, low carb choices, and high protein in a way that wouldn't make me feel like I was starving and this is what I've come up with so far.

I invented a meal plan that allows me to eat all day while feeling full, energized, and satisfied. *Spoiler alert: I'll be sharing it with you all in my next post depending on how interested you are in learning more about it!*

Recipe of the week(HG)

Hello Ladies,

So this week I have a recipe to share that is very interesting and EASSSYYY to make, oh and did I mention its CAKE CAKE CAKE! While watching Dr.Oz a few weeks ago, on the show was the fabulous Hungry Girl. While on the show she showed several recipes that were awesome-healthy, easy to prepare and inexpensive! For more details, If you're interested you can visit the site . last week I prepared the Chicken Parm you can check it out here I got the recipe from an older version which can be found here.  So to the recipe already........

Club Soda Chocolate Cake

1/12th of cake: 171 calories, 3.5g fat, 301mg sodium, 34g carbs, <0.5g fiber, 19g sugars, 1.5g protein -- PointsPlus® value 5*

Ingredients:
One 18.25-oz. box moist-style devil's food cake mix (or other chocolate cake mix)
One 12-oz. can club soda

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9" X 13" baking pan with nonstick spray.

In a large bowl, whisk cake mix with soda until smooth. Pour into the pan.

Bake until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean, 30 - 35 minutes.

Slice and enjoy!

MAKES 12 SERVINGS

Okay so here’s my version! Due to the fact that I didn’t follow the recipe when I went to the grocery store I picked up the wrong amount of cake mix. I bought a cake mix that had about 3 oz’s less, so what I did to supplement that I poured 3 oz’s less of club soda.  Other than that I followed the directions as listed and decided to add a little décor to my cake (sprinkles of course)!!!! Oh and I added some chocolate frosting! So I decided to use half of the frosting and that adds about 50 calories or < to the recipe. I just can’t do regular cake without icing..... So here's my picts……

Ending result……. Fabulous, inexpensive and HEAAALLLTHHHYYY!!!WooooHooo

New Product Find (GNC Pro Performance Whey Protein)

My shake made with skim milk

Hey ladies,

So I recently realized that I was failing to meet the suggested amount of protein that I should be in taking for my diet. So I thought about several different ways to alter my diet. Then I considered protein shakes. So I done a little bit of researching, I considered several different brands. I then came across GNC Pro Performance. This brand has several different flavors and after reading the reviews and comments I decided to go with the Banana Cream Flavor. This flavor is so delish! It reminds me of a banana-flavored milkshake, and it definitely has helped me to make my recommended amount of protein in take.  Below is some information that I found via WebMd.com

Dieters. When shedding pounds sensibly, the goal is to lose body fat but maintain lean muscle mass. Protein helps you do that. Protein foods tend to be more filling, so they delay hunger, making it easier to stick with your weight-loss program. Just keep an eye on the calories and portion sizes of your protein choices when including them in meals and snacks.

Protein shakes
As interest in health and nutrition grows, more and more people are trying protein shakes as a way to lose weight or enhance their sports performance. What do protein shakes consist of, and what are their true benefits? Here's some information to guide you.

What are protein shakes?Protein is one of the body's main building blocks for muscle, bone, skin, and other tissues. Used often by athletes, protein shakes come in many combinations of protein, carbohydrates, and fats. They can range from 100% protein to mostly carbohydrates with a little added protein and fat. Protein shakes come in a variety of flavors in powder form or in ready-to-drink packages, such as cans or foil packs.

How much protein do you need?Almost all people can get the protein they need from whole foods and drinks in their diet. The recommended daily intake of protein for healthy adults is 0.75 g of protein per kilogram of body weight, or about 45 to 56 g of protein a day

Whey protein is:

·       A protein found in milk
·       Fast-absorbing
·       In your body for a shorter time
·       A good supplement after intense workouts

Eating Healthy While Supporting the Community

Farmer Markets-Locally Grown
As we all know the benefits of eating healthy and the expensive price of produce and other healthy options, I recently decided to do a little research. I looked into my local farmers market and not only found out that all the items are locally grown, but there is also fresh poultry and other meats being sold there as well. I thought that only produce would be sold there (little did I know, lol). I also found out that there was a small café’ inside and everything being made there was fresh from the locally grown farms! Talk about a healthy place for shopping and eating. Now to the most important, business! I know that buying a bag of apples or fresh spinach is pricier than little Debbie cakes and Hostess. So I see this as a wallet friendly way to shop for healthier food options! (WoooHoo) I say that because these foods come directly from a local location, so its not(transportation) prices, the food is fresher because of the short distance and because the farmers want local support their willing to negotiate their prices!

So I encourage you all to do a little research and locate a farmers market in your area! And if you cant locate one, then there is always Trader Joes and Whole Foods near!
